About the Event
You will not want to miss this overnight with PeaksandPoses. We’ll be spending Saturday night above tree-line at Lake of the Clouds hut. This is the Appalachian Mountain Club’s (AMC) highest and most visited hut. Our hike up the Ammonoosuc Ravine trail will land us just 1.5 miles from Mount Washington with an extraordinary view the eastern slope of The Big W!!! We are also .4 miles below Mount Monroe another spectacular mountain along the Presidential range.

Click on the link below for a description of our hike. While it is short (3.1 miles to the hut), there are parts that are steep. This trail is rated difficult due to the rocks, routes and areas of steepness and possible wetness. If you have any questions about your ability, PLEASE email me before signing up.

What’s so special about the date?
In the hiking community, this Saturday September 12th is also known as Flags on the 48. Post 9/11, groups of people have climbed each of the 48 4000’ of New Hampshire to place a flag on the summit in honor of all those that died on that day. While we are not part of a group carrying a flag, it will be an unforgettable experience to hike up to Mount Monroe to take part in the ceremony.
What will our day be like?
We'll stop along the way to take in the view strike some poses and of course snap photos. We'll arrive at Lake of the Clouds hut to quickly unpack and continue a short distance (.4 miles) to summit Mount Monroe at 5,371' elevation. Back at the hut, there is a common area to chill, read, do yoga or venture outside to walk around the area. Lake of the Clouds Hut offers co-ed bunk-rooms and separate washrooms with toilets. Bunkhouses are not heated and have no lighting. Electrical outlets are not available. You must have a headlamp with extra batteries. Our stay above tree-line will be an extraordinary experience.
