About the Event
The Appalachian Mountain Club rates this hike as difficult due to the terrain and elevation gain. Prior hiking with elevation gain is mandatory. We will hike 6 miles the first day to summit Mount Haystack (up the Falling Waters Trail) and then hike along the Franconia Ridge to reach Mount Lincoln and Mount Lafayette. We'll stop along the way to strike some poses, snap photos, and admire the stunning views of Cannon Mountain, Franconia Notch State Park, and the Pemigewasset Wilderness.
Saturday: We will end the day at The Greenleaf hut in time for dinner and rest. This will be an incredible and unique outdoor experience as Greenleaf hut sits above treeline at 4200’, offering some of the best views of New Hampshire. This hut was built in 1930 with recent improvements. It's rustic and homey. and sleeps 48, with a crew of 5, to cook a delicious dinner and breakfast family style. Wait till you meet the crew or as they say “the croo.”
Sunday: After breakfast at 7 we will hike 3 miles down Old Bridle Path.
About the hut: Greenleaf Hut offers co-ed bunkrooms and separate washrooms with toilets. Bunkhouses are not heated and have no lighting. Electrical outlets are not available. You must have a headlamp with extra batteries.
Food: Dinner and breakfast are included with your stay. Dinner is served family-style at 6:00 PM sharp and includes fresh bread, soup, salad, a hearty entrée, and dessert. With advance notice, we can accommodate dietary preferences including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free diets. Breakfast is served family-style at 7:00 AM sharp and includes eggs with pancakes or a baked good, plus hot cereal, fruit and breakfast meat, like bacon or sausage, with coffee, cocoa or tea. You are responsible for packing your own trail lunch on Saturday.
