How do you feel when you wake up in the morning? Rested or still tired? Clear headed or groggy? Light or heavy? At ease or achey? Ready to conquer the world or reach for your coffee? Our mindset and how our body feels first thing in the morning is crucial as this feeling sets the tone for the rest of our day. According to the principles of Ayurveda, the first thing to do in the morning is hydrate, so drink water (warm water preferably) and plenty of it. This will help with daily elimination. An additional principle of Ayurveda is to move our body and connect our breath with our movement. In my POWER UP Coaching Program, we refer to this as our Breath, Body Practice. The idea is to start to move our body as we coordinate it with our breath. We start with a minute and work our way up to 20. The choice is ours which can include: walking, dancing, shaking, jumping jacks, sun salutations or other yoga poses. It’s critical to connect our movement with our breath. This movement from our long rest will move the oxygen into our cells and start to shift the energy from stagnation (sleep state) to a more dynamic state. We will start to feel more alive. It will also help us land in our body and not in our mind. Our breath or our Prana (yoga wisdom) is our life force. It’s what keeps us alive. Think about it as though we are breathing life, energy and vitality into our body to ignite our day. Let’s start this practice today so we can feel light, radiant and full of vitality. If this habit is something you want for yourself and for your health but it feels like a challenge, I invite you to schedule a complimentary POWER UP phone call with me. We can discuss your challenges and I can give you a boost or a tip to get you going and grooving. Click here to schedule your call today.
